This month's weekly verse series will be "God's Strength in You".
Ephesians 3:16-21 is the passage I have chosen to focus on for the month of September in my personal life. Today, I want to share with you the first verse of that passage. As we can see in verse fourteen (“For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,”), this verse is part of Paul’s prayer for the Ephesians.
Strength by His Spirit
The fist thing I notice in this verse is the fact that Paul specifies that he is praying for the Ephesians to be strengthened by the Holy Spirit. This is something we must all focus on. When we are facing difficulties in our day to day life, where are we drawing our strength from? We are severely limited in our own capacity. We can be easily overwhelmed if we are our only source of strength. We need God’s strength.
The Inner Man
Paul is not talking about physical strength in this prayer, but rather, spiritual strengthening. Remember, “…we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against…spiritual wickedness in high places” (Eph. 6:12). If we are going to have victory over spiritual wickedness, we are going to need spiritual strengthening.
An Example of Prayer
God wants us to pray for one another, and I believe that this passage—and this verse specifically—is a wonderful example of how to pray for our fellow believers. I would challenge you to take this passage and pray it specifically for a brother or sister in Christ.
This week, when you are feeling weak or defeated, look to Jesus, and draw from His strength. And when you see a fellow believer who is struggling, pray that they would “be strengthened with might by his Spirit”.
May God strengthen you,
