The next three verses of verses of Psalm 34 are David’s testimony of what God did for him, and what God can do for you.
“I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.”
I believe many of us, myself included, have a tendency to read the Bible quickly, without really taking the time to truly consider the wonder of what it has to say. In this verse, David says that he sought God, and God heard him. My natural response when reading this is, “yes, of course, God hears everyone,” but when I think more carefully on this, I realize the awesomeness of it. David speaks to the almighty creator of the universe, the infinitely holy God, and that same God listens to him and gives him what he asks of Him. When I consider this, I am motivated to pray. I too have access to the Creator, and He will listen to His children.
“They looked unto him, and were lightened: And their faces were not ashamed.”
Often, when I am facing troubles, I get so caught up in my circumstances that I don’t look to God as much as I should. It sounds simple, but is often difficult. We must turn our focus to the Lord and seek Him in prayer.
Henry Morris commented on the word lightened in this verse. He wrote:
This unique adjective, “lightened,” has the root meaning of “sparkle.” It is often used to describe a fast-flowing, cascading, sparkling stream of water. Thus, when God answers our prayers in special ways, it results in “sparkling” or “radiant” countenances as they “light up” with joy.
God can turn a troubled, fearful person to a radiant, joyful one.
”This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him, And saved him out of all his troubles.“
Once again David reminds us that the Lord heard his cry and acted on his behalf. If you desire God’s intervention in your life, ask Him for it.
This week, consider the amazing privilege we have to be able to communicate with God. No matter what you are facing today, God wants to hear about it from you and is willing and ready to listen and help.
In Christ,
